Biography
Background:
Born in Kenya (Nairobi) where partly educated
at primary and High School. Qualifications obtained 9A levels; a degree
in psychology; management course travel and business. Owned and managed a
successful travel business until married. I have been a highly active member of
charity work for over 31 years and speak various languages; - fluent Urdu,
Punjabi, Swahili, basic Russian and German and Gujrati.
Political Career:
Elected councillor for Ealing Broadway Ward
2014. Active member and fundraiser for Ealing, Central & Acton
Conservative Association – campaign fund raising director in the general
election for Daniel Kawczynski MP. In the local 2002 election I was selected to
stand in Walpole Ward. Stood in the local election of 2006 and elected councillor
for Acton Central Ward until 2010.
Chairman, Deputy Chairman membership
and fundraising for Acton Ward; Deputy Mayor for The Borough 2008/9
undertaking over 200 engagements. Chairman 100 Club until 2008/9; (launched in
2006) .Chairman of “The Patrons Club” Ealing, Central and Acton since launched
in 2007. I was also one of the two prospective parliamentary candidates
for the Ealing & Southall by-election in 2007 and co-chairman of the 60th
anniversary celebrations Ball of India & Pakistan with David Cameron in
2007.
Outside Interests:
Since 2004 I became Chairman of the
Children’s Hope – Foundation and organised several fundraising events to assist
children in poverty, education, disability and medical equipment. Fundraised
for RAAFT enabling the foundation of a mother and baby hospital. As the
Director of Children’s Hope Trading Ltd, I set up and currently run the
charity’s first retail outlet on The Mall in Ealing Broadway. Vice
Chairman for “Save the Children” Chiswick & Hammersmith in 1980’s and served
on the Committee of the Commonwealth Society for the Deaf (Soundseekers).
Assisted with fundraising for "Help the
Aged" with Princess Helena Moutafian, Chairman of Asian Family Counselling
Service based in Ealing in1990’s. Youngest Treasurer in the 80’s and then
Chairman of the Commonwealth Countries League from 1992-1994. Raised funds for
CCL by running The International Stall annually for over 15 yrs. Helped to
fundraise on the committee of “Concern for Mental Health”, which I continue to
support along with the “Phoenix Project” based in Ealing. I am a keen
supporter and member of the (WIA) Women’s India Association UK.
Event organiser and
professional fundraiser of (charities). My motto is “Progress with Compassion.”
I am committed to the welfare of the young and elderly and have helped in many
areas to resolve concerns for the needy. As an author I have written a cookbook
‘Definitely Dishy on Italian, Thai, Mediterranean, and fusion Indian cuisine.
I am a nature lover who has travelled the world and write poetry, on any
subject, and above all have raised our children with family and community
values, respect of culture and traditions, caring and giving.
