BIOGRAPHY

Background:

Cllr. Ranjit Dheer was born in India on 3 October 1942. He obtained a BA and an MA degree from Punjab University and became a Lecturer in English at a government college in the state of Punjab. He came to the UK in 1966, and, studied at Bristol (PGCE) and London (MA) universities. He started his career as a teacher in London eventually becoming an Assistant Director of Education in a London borough. Subsequently, he was appointed Director of Race Equality in Buckinghamshire. Cllr. Dheer was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1979 and has served as a magistrate in Ealing, Brentford and Uxbridge courts for 32 years. He has also served as a Member of the Employment Tribunals for nearly twenty years.

He is a long standing member of the National Trust and President of The Hedgehog Preservation Society. He has also been involved with a number of community organisations in London. He is also a keen traveller and has visited 60 countries with his wife and children. His other interests include hill walking, Indian classical music, historic houses of architectural interest, animal welfare, cooking, and literature. He is the author of four books.
