We are very concerned at the Council’s decision not to renew the lease for Pitshanger Library when it comes up for renewal in December 2018. The Library is a vital community asset and we petition the Council to renew the lease so that the library can continue to supply its essential services to the community and call on the Council to improve and adapt these services to the changing needs of the community in order to attract new users.

This petition has been reviewed and the following response has been offered:
The
Council is investigating options that will make library services more efficient
and responsive to the changing ways that communities use libraries. Pitshanger
Library is one of a handful of libraries housed in premises that the Council
does not own and as a consequence has to pay an annual rental charge. We are
speaking with the Landlord about the Library and are confident that it will
remain on the site beyond the 31 December while we continue our discussions.
